About Us
Steve and Shannon Johnson founded Foggyrock.com as a solution to the isolation that they often felt as parents of a child with autism. They wanted to create a community of individuals who understood the unique challenges that such a diagnosis introduces into a family. With Steve’s background in technology, and Shannon’s experience in education and journalism, together they designed Foggyrock.com to be easily accessible and simple to use. They encourage members to share their stories, ask questions, join groups, make friends and just be there for each other.
Steve and Shannon have two children. Wynn is 13 and has autism. Haley is 11 and is a constant teacher and friend to her older brother. The family resides in Maine.
About FoggyRock
Foggyrock.com is a social site for family, friends and providers of individuals with autism. When you register (a quick 2-step process), you become a member of this amazing community of people who care about autism in a very personal way. You also get to design your own personal page (check mine out at: http://www.foggyrock.com/MyPage/wynnsmom) where you can share information, communicate with other members, download photos (video functionality will be available soon), journal, make friends and just share. Or, for those of you who are more private, you can choose to create a personal page that makes private at your request any information that you don't want to share with others.
Also, we have a Forum section, where you can throw out thoughts or questions for the other members to comment on. There is a library where you can browse for relevant topics of information. You can also (and I hope you will) add your own contributions to the library for others to access. For example, you can add a link to an interesting article on brain research in autism, or you can download a file of a list of physicians who specialize in treating autism etc....
AAnother exciting feature is the Groups section. Any member can start their own group---similar to yahoo groups. We are hoping that members will be bold and sign up to host their own group. I imagine members signing up their child's school team to Foggyrock.com so that they can share dates for meetings and pass along interesting articles and information on upcoming conferences. Members can start another group just for the family to share cute stories about their child and keep each other updated on progress and dates etc.....And members can even start a group for people who are interested in a certain type of educational model, or a certain diet, or live in a certain geographical area. Groups can be open to the public or private and by invitation only.
There is actually much more to Foggyrock.com and more to come in the future as well!
So, do us a favor. Would you log on to www.foggyrock.com and sign up and try it out? First of all, we would love the opportunity to get to know you all better by checking out your personal pages. Secondly, we would really love to know what you think. What works for you and what doesn't? What is needed to make it even better? (there is a "Tell Us What You Think" at the bottom of each Foggyrock.com page)
