Boy was I nervous giving my son his B-12 shot, so afraid I'd hurt him, gave him Emla cream at bedtime though and I just did it in his sleep at 6:30 a.m. I was so scared and I still am, think I will be for quite a while. Not used to giving shots. Hard to get the vitamins in him, they are in powder form that I can put in food, any ideas?

I remember the same fear when I first started MB12 shots with my son. My doctor recommended that I give myself a shot just so I could know how very little pain and discomfort is involved. Once I did that, and saw that there really was no pain (especially with the emla cream) then it took all the anxiety out of it. I used to put the cream on a bandaid and then put the bandaid on my son's bum, and leave it there for 30-40 minutes. Then, I would just clean the area with an alcohol swab and give the shot and he didn't feel a thing.....

I think you'll get used to the B12 shot. They have some b vitamins and minerals in transdermal creams - you have to visit some of the big compounding pharmacies websites. It's more expensive - but if that's the only way. A mom I know puts it all in choc sryup and give with syringe. My son takes all the powders mixed with juice, makes a face and then has three chocolate chips...but we've been at it a while. I can't put it in foods...we've lost foods from our short list of acceptable foods by putting supplements in them. I can't afford to lose more foods.

I've never given a shot to any of my kids, so I can only imagine how scary that had to be. I'd probably be shaking like a leaf. All I can tell you is my mom had to give food allergy shots to herself, me and my sister, and she learned to do it, and eventually did it without fear.

How often do you have to give them too him? I can relate...as I'm going to have to start giving shots to one of my children for other health reasons...and well I'm not crazy about the idea either! I hope all goes well for you and your son.
