Re: How to deal with kid's anxiety

My son has already displayed anxiety in noisy places by sucking his shirt, biting his skin, clinching his teeth, raising his shoulders. I know these are all things he does to cope. I've been looking into a play therapist with counseling experience. I'm trying to stay away from drugging him and just give him lots of security and earplugs in loud places. I discourage the biting of the skin big time. I've gotten him a plastic chewy stick from a occupational therapist, but I don't want him dependent on it. I only pull it out in rough situations. Pretty soon he may even ask for it, who knows?

Re: How to deal with kid's anxiety

I am going to start working with chris on role playing.  He is constantly calling himself stupid or bad and then hitting himself in the head with his hand.  This was a very good article

Striving- Chris has an Ipod for when we are in places that have a lot of people and alot of noise.  This has really helped him stay calmed.  It's just hard to get his attention sometimes but it can be worth it

We need to work on role playing, too.  Sometimes, it's just really hard for Daniel to calm himself down, so working through the trigger issues when he's calm might help.  Thanks, Shannon!  I've bookmarked that article.
