Special Olympics

I was wondering if any of you have kids that participate in SO. If so, which sport or sports.
Two of my kids started last winter in Gymnastics. They loved it. Lucy was too young to compete. She is 7 and needs to be 8. We didn't have my son compete either because my daughter would have been upset. This year they can both compete so it should be exciting. SO is a great program. We all felt so welcome. We didn't have to deal with other parents whispering to each other as they wondered what was wrong with my kids and why did they act the way they did.

I was thinking about basketball too, but I don't want to stress them with too many activities.

Re: Special Olympics

I was planning on doing it this summer...but all my plans got changed for me so we will be doing swimming with my son next year. I know alot of kids have benefited from doing this and I like the fact that they work on things with our kids based on their individual abilities and much like an IEP Goal.

Re: Special Olympics

Ya, same here in Lexington, nc. Gymnastics when they're 8, before they just play games at a local Y and call it events. My son is 7 and will be 8 next August. I plan to enter him in gymnastics, he loves to jump.
