secretin anyone?

Stool analysis showed several indications that secretin treatment might help my son's bowel. It has. He is normally constipated, and when he does move his bowels it is this unformed, sticky, foul mess. This week my husband laughs when I change a poopy diaper with a huge smile as I say "beautiful - gorgeous!". We are not completely there but getting closer. We have moved to transdermal so we don't have to go to the doctor's offer so frequently. We'll see how it works.  Just wondering if anyone else is using this too?

Re: secretin anyone?

Hi,

we use secrtin when my son was four, after the second I.V he potty trained himself.  we only did four I.V's.  Then last year we tried secrtin again hoping it would help with speech, we used the nasal spray.  It didn't work, but we tried.  What has made the biggest difference was using the emzymes along with the bifidopholis.  The emzymes we use are from Houston Nutricutical, they are made to look for the casin and gluten in the gut.  you can check out the place at www.houstonni.com I had Dr. Houston come and speak here in Madera, CA. in March of 2007

Re: secretin anyone?

My son is 16 and he has had 8 treatments but it was about 7 years ago. I went into it for speech. I wanted to increase his speech ~ ~ that didn't happen BUT a wonderful thing did happen - he began to have b/m's everyday. This used to be a huge issue here. He stayed constiipated all the time before and even though it's been that many years ago I still see the results. I am not sure if 8 treatments were needed. I did them every 2 months and only stopped because it was $1,000.00 per treatment and I didn't get the speech not even a few words. but for the behavior issues that went along with the constipaion issues I would say try it.. I think Chad got a lot from it.

Re: secretin anyone?

Thanks for the comments - we also are very very happy with the regular BMs. Our next step is the Houston Enzymes. I want one that scavenges for the casein and gluten but also has laipase (spelling??). I think I saw one on there that does that. I feel like all the fat soluble based nutrients (and expensive supps) and being pooped right out b/c he also is not digesting the long chain fatty acids.  Thanks for the support. Cathy
PS we did not see gains in speech - but friends have been commenting on how much more our son is trying to communicate with them or connect with them. We have also seen that at home - it happened about the time of the secretin use.

Re: secretin anyone?

Our son had secretin when he was 5. It was qute a trick back then (9 years ago) to obtain it. He had only 1 IV as part of an endoscopy. For the first few weeks, we observed an increased amount of hyperactivity. However, his stools were formed and he went from "floaters" to "sinkers". (Yes, in my house we only use medical terminology). After those few weeks, we observed some minor gains, Abour 5 weeks after that his preschool teacher called an IEP b/c he met all but one of his goals. These were very basic goals, but he'd had the same goals for 3 years! It was cause for celebration. Otherwise, Gastrocrom and GFCF diet have been the most helpful in helping to calm our son's angry gut. Jane

Re: secretin anyone?

Hello We have been using IV Secreflo since 2004 - over 3 years. We had great improvements in speech and eye contact in the beginnning. Latter we used it for pain and inflammation mgmt for his GI issues.  In the end it was not working very well.  But overall, after an estimated 100+ treatments, I would recommend it to any child with severe GI issues, Poor Immune system and overall symptoms of severe autism.  Auntie

Re: secretin anyone?

We just moved to transdermal secretin last week. The peeks and valleys of the IV, plus the office visit to our DAN was becoming unmanageable. He would get his gut on track and then we'd see it start to fall apart and have to get back to the office and then spend two weeks getting back in shape...etc...etc...
So we went TD and worried if it would work - within two days we could see the difference. Not much difference in price but totally worth it to be consistent with treatment. he doesn't like the cream (it's cold and may burn a little) so I put in on after he goes to bed at night and he deosn't even stir, let alone wake up. I'm just so impressed with it and happy to find something help his sore little tummy.

Re: secretin anyone?

we also used secretin back when the real stuff from Japan was avalible, our DAN dr did it differently more like allergy shots IM or under the skin, he would send us home with them to do at home, they used to be only 50 dollars a shot, then when that stuff ran out it was 200 a shot, we stopped then.  it helped our son with hyper activity, stool, attention, focus and lang.  we had a direah kid of 12-14 times a day that then went to 2 firm stools a day.  it was nice.

Re: secretin anyone?

Can't comment on secretin as we only did one infusion years ago, but I can tell you that my son's stools have never been so lovely (in a very GI way) since we started on a combination of Trienza and No-Fenol enzymes from Houstons.  I based those two choices on the trial and error and also on the particular foods that my son eats.  He is SCD and so for him, we have to work hard to digest all the plant-based foods.  Finally, he is digesting food, feeling full and satiated after meals and not raiding my cabinets all the time..

Re: secretin anyone?

Worked wonders on healing John's gut..that was about 9-10 years ago when it was new...it was the first thing to make a difference in his life. The endless runny poop STOPPED!! It was amazing. Sadly once we could no longer get it..he regressed but by then the world was starting to hear of gfcf..and yeast..so over time..we got his gut healed. Best of luck to you!! cheryl

Re: secretin anyone?

My friend is starting it this week (transdermal).  Her DAN said Oxytocin and Secretin work better together (given seperately).  We have used Oxytocin but not Secretin.

Re: secretin anyone?

I did secretin hormone IV therapy about nine years ago with my son. I did them every 6 weeks for a year and a half. He went from low functioing to high functioning autistic. He had no secretin in his body. The MMR had mercury, and it wiped it out. I did it until his levels were normal. He is now 19. He graduated last May with a regular high school diploma. I highly recommend it for those with chronic bowel problems, it seems to work for them only. May the force be with you all!

Re: secretin anyone?

I'm curious, how do you all afford this? My son is on Medicaid, and as far as I know, they do not pay for Secretin.
