So they just announced a running mate for John McCain...the Governor for Alaska... a woman who's 5th child was diagnosed with Downs. I wonder what her platform will be with children with special needs now that she's on the ticket??? Thoughts?

I'm not sure what to think yet....but am interested in hearing what she has to say....as I'm still sitting on the fence these days.

I do try to keep my mouth shut on politics but it is bothering me that people think that just because she has a child with a disability she is going to be a good vice president. We really don't know anything about her. I read on a group I am on that after she took office in Alaska the special needs budget for the schools was cut by 62%. I know there are all sort of things surrounding how and why these things happen but it is a bit concerning. So far I don't have much faith in McCain, the videos I have seen he seems lost for words or he can't speak for himself and I don't see much on his agenda for Autism or Environmental concerns.

After hearing her last night...I was impressed...but still waiting to see what happens.

I'm still on the fence too...I certainly can't vote JUST because she has a child with a disability, besides it's McCain we'd be voting for...is there a 3rd choice????

New news came out today, Sarah Palin's sister has a son with Autism

Well, if any of you know me, then you know I speak my mind about ANYTHING, and personally, I really like Palin!!! I saw her speech, and I have read up about her, and I am for her and McCain. Just my two cents! LOL!

I think what's disturbing me about Palin is the fact that she hid her pregnancy and the dissability from her children till the birth. As a political figure it is my right to inquire about these actions, if it were someone other than Palin, I'd have no business poking my nose where it didn't belong. If her nephew in fact has autism, what has she done to help our autism society? I will look for my answers via this wonderful tool called the 'internet.'
By the way .. I hope you all are having a great day .. so far so good here.

LOL Nick...no really tell us what your really thinking! Luv the brutal honesty!!!
Right now I'm leaning towards the right myself, and I think if that is the worst they can dig up on her...then she is looking pretty good compared to many other washington politicians. I was also impressed with her special ed record...the rumor was that she had cut special ed programs in her state....but cnn was doing there debunk the myths thing with Cambell Brown, and the actually said that was false and that she had actually increased funding for special needs programs.
But I am still looking forward to the debates...cause that will be the icing on the cake.

oops...correction...it wasnt special ed...but special needs programs...sorry my bad!

Heard an update on her. They said she cut special services, but now after researching actually increased special needs funding in Alaska. So looks like the initial story was inaccurate.
