Yea!  That is really good news for you.  The eye exercises might be really helpful and you may find improvements in many areas as a result.  Sounds like you went to a behavioral optometrist.  We took my son to one years ago because he was using his eyes in very funky ways.  He sent us home with all sorts of exercises using mirrors and platforms and prism glasses....Don't actually know if it helped my son--but the theory supports such exercises as beneficial.  I'm so sorry that it took so long for you to find this help, but will be glad to see the benefits.  Please come back and share your progress!

I am so glad you finally found a doctor who listens to you and knows how to help. It is very frustrating being rushed through an apt. and a shame when they are missing the real picture and not treating their patients properly. I hope the excercises help!!

Re: fillny saw the right eye dr

I think it's wonderful that you found a doctor who seems to understand what you're experiencing and can communicate with you, just sorry it took so long to find him.

We've been dreading taking my granddaughter to the optometrist - the dentist visits have been bad enough. But how to get someone with Autism or Asperger's to understand what the eye doc is asking, and how the heck do these kids figure out how to respond? I'm sure we'll do what we always do when we take her to a new situation and explain beforehand that she has been diagnosed with Autism. That way the new doc can either let us know they're not comfortable working with kiddoes who have trouble expressing themselves, or they can provide a longer time for the exam so no one feels rushed and ends up on overload so they meltdown.

I haven't had a meltdown at the eye doctor's myself - but I got so frustrated after paying for two pair of glasses that drove me nuts that I waited forever to find a new doc. This last one was great and told me that my prescription hasn't changed, which might explain why the last two prescriptions for glasses weren't right. But I've had some meltdowns at the dentist's office - that's a very difficult environment for me.
