Summary Statement : Autism is a component of Autism spectrum disorders, with an unknown cause and increasing incidence. It currently affects 3-4 per 1,000 children who have difficultly interacting socially, poor verbal skills, repetitive behavior and resistance to change. Behavior can also be influenced by autistic enterocolitis, which causes gut pain and distress to the child.
