Christmas Gifts

Raymond is a very giving child, HOWEVER he has no job. He has two 'girl' friends that I thought he'e like to buy a gift for (movie tickets, candy, etc.); he said, "That would be great Mom, Oh .. and my friend Brandon wants, etc., and my teacher, wants, etc." I said, "Raymond, I'd love to help but that's not in our budget." We've raised our children with the belief that school and sports are thier 'job.' Raymond will be 15 next August; I'm already scouting our local grocery store for him. His weekend outings can be expensive; when we were kids your ticket cost $2.50 and that was TWO movies and you could watch them over and over again! I've also broached the subject of 'girls' and he was very comfortable with the conversation, I was surprised. His father pushes more of the 'manners' but I push the 'feelings will intensify, but he is entirely too young for any 'adult' situations.' If I had this conversation with my 11 yr old son, he'd turn beat red and hide his head under the blankets. Who knew Raymond would be so receptive? I've also noticed his rebellious/debating teenager evil twin is emerging. He has opinions from everything to our Government to the way I parent my daughter! Sheesh. Thank god for conversations. I have to tell myself over and over again .. "You cannot win by power, you have to use the art of persuasion." When he was little, it worked very well which is probably why he responds to football so well. He actually called me "Dude," I didn't even have to say anything, he said, "Sorry Mom."
