In October 2006, the organization “Autism Speaks” convened a group of pediatric gastroenterologists and autism specialists to review the available evidence relative to diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal (GI) disorders in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and to propose future research initiatives. A goal of this meeting was to reach a consensus of this group on appropriate diagnostic evaluation and treatment of GI symptoms in children with ASD.
