October 09, 2007
Portland, Ore. - A 2005 five-year, $2.9 million National Institutes of Health grant to the Center for Spoken Language Understanding (CSLU) at OHSU's School of Science & Engineering is helping researchers better understand autism--and spurring a host of additional research awards and fellowships.
"These awards are indicative of the unique nature of the speech and language research we're conducting," said CSLU Director Jan van Santen, "and a testament to the value of applying engineering methodologies to health problems like autism." van Santen is also head of the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (CSEE).
