I am the dad of my 4 y/o daughter Liv. She was dx in August of 07. Liv is my only child. If you stop by my page leave me a post below. God Speed to you all.
I am in my mid 30's recently divorced (unrelated to autism & pre-regression). Liv & I enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. This summer I hope to take her camping with me. BTW, I am the worst speller of all time please take a laugh at how I spell ;)

All I need your help..
Liv last couple of weeks has had pooping problems. She is on a laxitive that has cleaned her out. This Friday she had a fit of rage. She goes nuts screaming, jumping, biting, & jumping around like a fish out of water. This happened off & on several times this weekend. I was concerned it was pain because she kept saying poop poop & pee pee. We took her to ER as her Dr suggested. They found no blockage, infection, etc bowels looked fine. Ironically, she was an angel for the the whole six hours we where in ER. Then last night she went nutz with a huge tantrum. This time she did not say poop pee at all. It was just a rage. She was biting her arm & all I could do was try & calm her to no avail. And, try to keep her from hearting her arm by biting it. I am at my wits end & scared. I have never seen Liv like this..... WTF, is going on? Does anybody know?

Hi again the video basically has all the ideas that were stated. Vitiam C, Milk of magnesia(misspelled). I think you know. They do have some herbs listed on there site if you want to go that route. Also if possible have her drink lots of water. I have this issue with my son drinking water.I hope she feels better. Quincy

The other possiblity is that she's about to make a developmental leap. Maybe that's wishful thinking, but wishful thinking has gotten me pretty far. Hang in there.

Wow. Of course you're scared. There's a lot of great advice here. If all this doesn't help, and even if it does, while you and Liv are still dealing with the tantrums, use deep pressure on Liv to calm her. That means, gently but firmly press on her. If she can't tolerate direct touch, put a pillow or a blanket between you and press. Pay attention to her face-- if it's what she needs, she'll start to relax within about 5 minutes, which will seem like an eternity, believe me. That doesn't mean the tantrum will completely stop in five minutes, just that she'll start cooling down. I used to squeeze Daniel's head when he had tantrums in public, and I'd do it pretty hard. When I'd let up, he'd put my hands back on. Even now, when he's beginning to get upset, I'll massage his hands and arms, especially around the joints. That's where they seem to feel it most. Daniel had those horrible tantrums, too, but they stopped, just stopped, when he was about 6 and started again when I had Sarah. That's when we put him on meds, because I didn't have the physical strength to just hold him until it passed. I know what it's like, and I hope you find a cure for it soon.

Forgot we are also using Organic fiber. You would think this kid would be flowing like a river after all that, lol.

What lax is she taking? We also have constipation issues and I have heard the lax is bad, as it contains oxalates and other icky stuff. I try my best not to use it unless I absolutely have to. I don't give it everyday like the Ped. rec'd. I use probiotics, epsom salt baths, aloe juice, and prunes on a regular basis. If he goes one to two days without a BM I will use a small dose of the miralax. I heard that vitamin C can help so I am trying that now with a liquid vit. C. I am in search of a natural lax option. Yes pain can cause this reaction, not that I would suggest it all the time, but maybe try a anti-inflammatory like Advil when she is acting this way and see if it helps. If so you will know it is pain from inflammation. Good luck, hope she is feeling better soon!!

I am so sorry to hear about poor Liv. That is so tough when you don't know what is wrong. I would think pain as well...I had both of my kids scoped, and my son was impacted even after the 48 hours of bowel prep and fasting that he had to go through---and I would have never suspected it because he never seemed constipated and always had regular movements....My DAN has had us start using Zantac for stomach acid as she says many of the kids with the rages (like mine) are having severe stomach pain, and it seems to help a bit. Also, you may want to see if Motrin or Advil helps relieve the pain as it is an anti-inflammatory med, and would let you know if inflammation is part of the problem. HBOT is supposed the best treatment for inflammation--especially when kids are young.....it addresses inflammation in the gut and the brain...We're thinking about you and Liv.

I think it's pain from intestinal inflamation which also will give her headaches, just because she is clean doesn't mean the inflammation is gone.I email you with more info. This is a list for parents of children receiving or considering treatment, at Thoughtful House in Austin Texas. You can post questions and there are a lot of suggestions, just like here at foggyrock. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/thoughtfulhousecenterforchildren/ Dr. Kringsman http://www.thoughtfulhouse.org/bio_akrigsman.htm Dr. Wakefield http://www.thoughtfulhouse.org/bio_awakefield.htm

Sounds like pain. Allergies? ears, nose, throat - stuff. Maybe tummy - even witout a blockage she could be having a heck of a tummy ache. There is a yahoo group - gfcfkids - they have good advice. It could also be a flare of yeast or bacterial or parasites(remember - full moon on wed - parasites seem to rear their ugly heads around full moon time). It would be worth it if she is having constipation issues as well as this anxiety to do a Gastrointestinal Function Profile done - we did one (with the help of a DAN to interprete results) through metametrix. We had no idea what was going on in his gut - no yeast, no bugs - but tons of inflammation, low pH, maldigestion - things that can really make you feel like crap (so to speak). Get some probiotics into her as well as a epsom bath and keep infractions to a minimum - check out that yahoo group. It goes way beyond GFCF. good luck...

Yes, Liv is GF... However, she does sometimes get some gluten in things as that happens. She did not get any more Gluten than she accidently gets sometimes.

Have you thought about biomed and having a GI workup completed? Of course, most mainstream GI docs are not very helpful.

Is she on a GFCF diet? Could she have had an infraction? About two months ago I went through something similar with my son and daughter. I bought a cereal I thought was GF but it wasn't. They had it for breakfast and I sent it for a snack for my son to school. It took a few days but then my daughter started acting up a bit and my son went nuts! He threw tantrums like I had never seen before that scared the crap out of me! I didn't realize until a week later when I was at the store and realized the cereal had wheat in it. I felt terrible! It took a bit to get back to normal but that infraction is what was the cause for my kids. I hope things get better fast..I was a mess going through those days when it was bad! ~Kristin

Sounds like pain to me. They can't tell that the bowels are 100% fine without a scope. Maybe she has intestinal inflammation. It can be very painful and it can be an intermittent type of pain.

I thought that may be a possiblity too. She did not have any yesterday.. And, now I have cut the dosage in half from what the Dr said now that I know she is clean. I also took a dose of it too to see how I was impacted. I did not get any cramps but, I had a heck of a dump in the morning.
