Hi, all! I live with my husband of 21 years and our 4 children and numerous pets. Our oldest has high-functioning autism. The rest of the kids are, apparently, normal. I think that siblings can really help a kid with autism, but no doubt there are some costs to the NT siblings of children with autism. That said, Daniel is very kind and helpful to his siblings and the opportunity to be socially competent at home is good for him. I just hope to help him be socially competent in the wider world, too.

Daniel went to the first day of Art Camp today. Four hours of structured art activities for teenagers. NO aide was with him and only two of the four teachers had met him before. It looked like there were about 25-30 kids there.
I told them to call me if they needed me. I'd stay by the phone. (need to get that cell phone!) I gave them brief instructions on what to do to calm him if he got upset, and then I left.
Four hours later, no calls. I drove over to pick him up, and got nothing but compliments! He'd understood the assignment, and done it. Afterwards, he "drew and drew and drew." I told them, "He does that!" "He's a fabulous artist!" the teacher told me, "I think he had a great time."
Big, big sigh of relief here. He's going to get the kinds of stimulation he needs and he'll be around other teenagers. Maybe this summer won't be so hard after all.

I'm really happy for you and your son. It's always nice to get such good news when you are expecting a disaster. Perhaps you should make him a website to display his art.
