Hi my name is Sonya. I have a wonderful husband who works his butt off so I can stay home with the kids Bryan 15, nt and Seoc 3, special needs. Seoc (pronounced Shock, it is Gaelic for Jack, it means God is Gracious) has numerous diagnosis but Autism is the one we struggle with daily. He has the biggest smile and best laugh I have ever heard. He is high functioning and has hyperlexia. He keeps life very interesting to say the least.

We had a great 4th of July I decided to take Seoc to the parade. They had all kinds of those blow up things for kids there, of course he didn't want to get on any but he ran around a while. Then we went to a little bistro while wasting time for the parade to start. It of course got busy because everyone else had the same idea. He was getting a little loud and my MIL told him to "Be quite you are embarrassing me" ROFL I said "You are going to have to get over that, lol" She said the man at the table behind me was giving us the look. Here I was thinking he was doing Great. Then we went outside and walked back and forth until it was time for the parade to start. He was actually into it this year. He cheered a few times and when he saw Dora the explorer he said "Boots where are you?" for those who don't watch Dora that is Dora's sidekick and he is always with her, lol. He doesn't miss a thing. Some of the floats were rather loud and he just covered his ears without having a meltdown!!! So after his nap I decided to try the fireworks, again he did wonderfully. I let him run around (when I say around I literally mean around in circles, lol) until the fireworks started and he sat on my lap for the whole fireworks show. We were naming the colors when they would explode and when it was over he clapped and said "Bye fireworks". Last year I would not of thought this possible. It was a wonderful day!!

All that counts is that you both had a good time. Enjoy the changes as they come, some are good and others- not so good. Take care.

Running around is key! Ian also had a great 4th celebration. We picked a spot where he could run and run with other kids. They were using their glow sticks as light sabers and he fit right in... I think it was the first time I didn't feel like I always needed him within arms reach. A few times I actually forgot about him; I was that relaxed. I'm glad Seoc enjoyed his day, too. I don't even think Ian knows what the word "embarassed" means! Today we took him out to lunch and he HATED it! Mr. Whiner made it a long meal, but we still enjoyed ourselves.

Lately he has actually been more sensitive to sounds so I was Very impressed with how well he did at the parade.

He must be feeling more comfortable with loud noises and crowds and with waiting than last year.... How wonderful that he could participate with such success!

Oh that is AWESOME!!!! Richie when he was little use to shut down with all the big comotion and fireworks...but now its one of his favorite holidays! That is too cool...and I have to admit...I was Rolling with you about the Bistro...and the embarrassing thing...as my parents just went home...and they mean well...but just dont get it....and would have reacted the same way!!!! I think its cause we get use to others...that we just dont pay as much attention to the stares anymore. Huggas! Lisa
