slhh130's Bio

Hi all! I am a mother to a almost 5 year old son (Caleb) with autism and a 2.5 year old daughter (Kelsey) with Asperger's. I also have many characteristics in common with the kids which makes dealing twice as hard for me-sensitive hearing, sensory, ADD, and a little auditory processing.  I am married to Dennis and we keep our hands full keeping up with the two of them.

Seizures

Today my friend emailed me and I told her that my son asked "What's happening to me?" And she asked "How does he describe them?" LOL! LOL! LOL! I told her that he cannot verbally express himself like that much less comprehend what is going on to put it into words! OMG! NT parents have no idea! Mine have not totally dropped off the face of our world. SO I guess I am lucky that I still have them. Well...maybe not after I laughed at her.

Thanks. I went to my hometown this weekend and I saw my best friend's parents. They told me that their youngest used to have those. So I am going to ask her. She is still on meds. She is now in her late teens. I keep finding more and more people who have had some type of seizure. Its too bad that I am finding out this way.

I'm so sorry about the seizures. It's got to be so scary for you and for him. Yes, NT parents have no idea. Fortunately, most of them mean well, so a little kind education (or a lot!) can really help.

Hopefully she will understand. I can tell you what they are like for me when I have a seizure. I have grand mal seizures. I start feeling strange like tingley and numb kinda like my whole body is sleeping (like when your leg false a sleep) and then I don't remember what happens next. First I can hear people talking but I can't see anything you almost feel disconnected from your body, then I feel the tingles again and then I can see. It is Very scary so I understand what your son is saying when your son says "What's happening to me?". I wish him or anyone else did not have to go thru that.
