Are there any other parents in your same situation in your district? Is there any early intervention service in your area that could at least be a resource for a district that would provide services. Institute of disability? Is it not illegal to not provide you services?

We didn't move to the town we're in now until we checked out the school system and talked with the heads of special education for our district. Even so, we had one year (9th grade) in which we threatened to sue the school. Except for that, though, it's been wonderful here, and once I adjusted to the new town and state, I really started to like it here. I still miss the people we left behind in Indiana (though I was born in New Jersey!) but have found so many wonderful friends, teachers, speech-language pathologists, etc., that I'm happy to be here now. Take your time making a decision, and then make the best of it. There are always trade-offs, always frustrations. Good luck! Let us know what you decide.

I reaaly hope where you move to you receive the services your son needs. My husband wants to move and even though I don't know alot about Texas, I'm always wondering how it will work for my son. I hope the grass is greener on the other side for your son. Best wishes.LOL!!!

Vicki, We did the same thing 4 years ago. Moved. We packed up and left the town we thought we'd grow old in and found a place that had more accessible services for our newly diagnosed son. It was (and is) heartwrenching and can make you bitter if you are not careful. I caution you to think about what you will be leaving and balance it with what you will be gaining. I don't know your entire situation and I definitely don't know how it works in Canada. I found the loss of friendships (preAutism) and the atmosphere of our old town vs our new town to be a huge loss. I'm grateful for the services and the family we now enjoy (closer to home) and I hope it will one day feel 100% like the right decision. I sympathize!!! Hugs to you and your family. Pam

I am so sorry. It must really be hard for you. It is a big decision to move. My husband was looking for a new job. Before he would send a resume, I would check out the place first. I like where we are at and we have a great elementary school but we could use more.

Roadblocks are becoming very familiar to me as I start this journey to help my little boy. It's so hard not to stay frustrated. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Is it just the town you live in or are you looking into leaving Canada? Keep plugging along. Don't let yourself be down too long as Mason needs you to dive in and get it done. You can do it!!! and we are here to help.

I hope and pray that you can find the services and support that you need for Mason. One thing that I learned from this website is that parents are the best and the strongest advocates for their children. Mason is lucky in that respect- he has you!
